1:45 – Langleys Solicitors LLP EBF Stallions Marygate Stakes (Listed Race) (CLASS 1) (2yo)

The majority of the speedy fillies we have seen this season so far meet here and Tiggy Wiggy has impressed more than most. Her debut win at Kempton was pretty routine and impressive but she dug deep last time to beat Exentricity, who she is now better weighted with, but that rival was having her first run.

Kodiac does so well with these types and sires four runners in this, including three of the first four in the market. Patience Alexander was visually very impressive on debut but she didn’t seem to beat much at all. Sarista is a right speedball and the horse she beat last time by a nose won nicely today in lesser grade. I can see her trading low in running and potentially something finishing better than her. Don’t Tell Annie was well backed on debut and did that nicely, again even if the form isn’t particularly spectacular.

Zuhoor Baynoona has to be high on the shortlist but GRANNY ALICE is a horse I really like and she is way too big to ignore at 25/1. She was 7th in the strongest race so far this season, at Newmarket and was entitled to win last time at Redcar on soft ground, which wouldn’t have suited. If she improves a touch from that, back on better ground, then she is no 25/1 shot.

Advice – Granny Alice 1pt e/w @25/1 generally

2:45 – Sky Bet Yorkshire Cup (British Champions Series) (Group 2) (CLASS 1) (4yo+)

The Yorkshire Cup is a superb race. I had a go at pricing up and found nothing too much of real note. If the ground was softer than Tac De Boistron would be a strong bet and even in this ground I think he is a class act and he’ll go really well. Likewise CUBANITA, who looks to be on the upgrade and I noted a step up in trip would suit her after she beat Noble Mission last time.

She does need give in the ground to be at best but has won on this ground as well and I think she will enjoy it out there. She was thrashed by the favourite at Chester last year but that was his ideal conditions and she’s a lot better now and is going the right way fast.

I’m a touch surprised to see Gospel Choir here as he doesn’t look in real need for this trip and only won two weeks away. The drying ground will really suit Ahzeemah who is as consistent as they come and I don’t see why he won’t run a big race; even if connections have suggested he needs it. That was enough to swing it elsewhere for me and I think Seal Of Approval also improves for this even if the trip should really suit her this season.

Penglai Pavilion was overpriced if any of them were for me of the outsiders as this ground on this track will suit him a lot more than what he’s been running over the last two starts, especially upped to this trip. He’s not one to trust much though. Camborne got it all together at the end of last year but again he probably needs more cut and last year’s winner Glen’s Diamond faces a far better field this time.

Advice – Cubanita 2pts win @8/1 generally

3:15 – Irish Champions Weekend Fillies´ Stakes (Registered As The Michael Seely Memorial Stakes) (Listed) (CLASS 1) (3yo)

Radiator impressed when breaking her maiden but was very disappointing as favourite in the Oh So Sharp, a race that has now worked out well. Folk Melody ran okay in the Nell Gwyn but reaching for the hood is off putting while this should be easier for Lady Lara but she’s vulnerable to an improver. Pelerin won nicely last time and a strongly run race would suit, while Qawaasem, Dutch Courage and Azagal set decent standards of form.

At a bigger price (general theme of this blog so far), BELLE DE LAWERS  is worth chancing. You simply don’t know how good she could be and she only beat a 76 rated horse last time but that’s a horse I rate higher than that and she breezed past her off a relatively slow gallop.

She travelled really well that day and put the race to bed in strides. She’s trained by an unfashionable trainer in James Bethell but he surely wouldn’t be here ruining a mark potentially of 84 if he didn’t think she was up to running well. She had been working well at home bfore and is just worth a chance here in a race that may not take that much winning.

Advice – Belle De Lawers 1pt e/w @25/1 generally

Newbury

2:00 – Swettenham Stud Fillies´ Trial Stakes (Listed Race) (CLASS 1) (3yo)

The Oaks looks a weak race at this stage with nothing coming out of the Lingfield and York trials over the past week. This Newbury race could be a lot better than usual and there’s some nice types in this. Hadaatha won well at the Craven meeting on debut and her pedigree strongly suggests a step up in trip will be right up her street.Sea The Stars is continuing the great start to his 3yo progeny.

Volume was one I had down for handicaps and the one she was third in at Newmarket was a very strong one, even if the winner has disappointed since. The runner-up has won though and she’s entitled to take her chance in this even if personally I’m disappointed she does. Sound Reflection ran over Guineas weekend when going out all guns blazing out in front in what was quite a strange ride. It’s intriguing whether she settles and runs a more conservative race.

But I have backed INCHILA at 50/1 for the Oaks already and I’m relatively confident she can beat these tomorrow. Her maiden win was really impressive, considering the way she travelled and quickened when asked, over C&D too. The third ran really well in the Lingfield trial on Saturday and I have her as the one to beat here considering the impression she’s given me so far.

Advice – Inchila 3pts win @5/1 generally
